„I have decided by my own conscience“

„I have decided by my own conscience“

Vlado, the news regarding your transfer to Qatar shocked Slovakia yesterday. Yes, it’s true, yesterday I signed a long-term contract with the Lekhwiya Sports Club, which is currently on the first place in the Qatar Stars League. It appears to have been cooked up very quickly, was it really that way, or you had known about the offer for a longer time? To tell the truth, I didn’t expect that it would gain such a momentum myself. It took some days, I didn’t really want to talk about it, as I first wanted to check it all by myself, meet the people and make the decision myself with my family support, without any other influence. I knew it would evoke people response, so decision making based on my own, clear conscience was very important for me and my family. Many people ask: Why Qatar? Aren’t you afraid of the jealous people in Slovakia that usually speak up when similar decisions are made? I was expecting that people will react this way and I’m not surprised, on the contrary, I am prepared for something like that. They say that one goes to these countries at the end of career, but there is no definition stating that one may not go there also earlier. There are many famous footballers in Qatar, our team is coached by a highly respected Belgian, Eric Gerets, I even know some of the players in person, and they have recommended the transfer to me. It was also recommended to me by my agent, Mino Raiola, who manages players such as Ibrahimovic or Balotelli, and I fully trust him at such decision making. I expect another football adventure and I believe, that I will not only feel good there, but also I will grow in terms of football. I try to set the jealous people aside, on the contrary I respect other people´s opinions,  and wish them all the best in their lives. And what about Olympiacos? How did you break up? I felt great in Greece. I am very grateful to the club for the chance I was given, as I was playing the Champions League with the best Greek club and I met lots of good people there. Unfortunately, at the end, I didn’t feel the required trust between the coach and myself. In the crucial moments, we didn´t reach consensus and that’s why I knew that it wouldn’t work and I would have to leave. We reached a mutual agreement that they wouldn’t cause me any trouble in case of a potential transfer. Of course, I took my leave having good relations and we all have stayed great friends. I wish they would proceed in the Champions League through United, and win another title!!! You won great favour with the fans, you were the audience favourite. I have to mention the match against PSG, when you were announced the best player and you were awarded for the most beautiful goal of the evening. I would like to thank especially to the Olympiacos fans, because I had received great support from them. They made it clear during each match, as well as in the city,  how much they loved me. Of course, leaving them is not a pleasant thing to do, but I strongly believe...

I look forward to the first league match

I look forward to the first league match

After the summer transfer from Pescara to Olympiakos Pireus, Vlado has joined the summer pre-season training. We asked him few questions regarding this training. A pre-season training is finished. Can you compare it with preparation that you had every year in Manchester City? It was my first preparation since my 15 that I did with different club than Manchester City. We had the first camp in Austria, by coincidence in the same place as we did the last year with the City. Regarding the conditions, it is on the same level, we had an excellent conditions and outstanding matches. Due to injury problems originated yet in Pescara, you missed two test matches during preparation. Is the issue OK now? I still have some minor troubles with the same issue like already in Pescara; after the training camp, where we were running a lot, my thigh muscle became slightly weakened and a knee sore appeared again. Everyday I train little bit more, it is not the 100 % yet, but it gets better and I do believe to be fully OK soon. Friendly match against Liverpool, played at Anfield Road is definitely a great experience for each player. How did you spend this match? I played at the Anfield for the second time in my life, it is an experience and a great feeling that I would indulge to happen to every football player. Liverpool is a great club with great fans and the atmosphere was excellent. In a friendly match against Anderlecht you played on home playground for the first time, in front of home fans. What do you think about your fans? Are they really as crazy as they are rumoured to be? I am very glad that we managed to win at home. It was the most important, since we were not doing very well during preparation; however, I believe that we will kick off the season with a victory and we will play at least as good as we did home against Anderlecht. We played nice football, especially in the first half and fans surely had to like it as they were supporting us throughout the match. I look forward to meet the national team and then to the first league match played next week on Monday. I am convinced that the Olympiakos fans confirm their reputation and they will be our great support in all matches....

“Hard, but very good preparation”

Vladimir Weiss shares his first thoughts of his presence at the Seefeld of Austria with Olympiakos. We would like to tell us your first impressions of the first stage of the preparation with Olympiakos It is certainly very good that I am here. Although, the preparation obviously is difficult. From the other side it is good because I think we will be ready and in good condition for the first game that will give in league. We will all be ready. Everyone is here makes me feel beautiful and enjoy myself. A preparation from the coach that is focused in fitness, but from tomorrow friendly matches are starting. Definitely I am expecting this game, it will be my first match with Olympiakos. I think that this week we are all here, surely there will be fatigue, but it is important that we get into this series of friendly matches.   Source: www.olympiacos.org thanks to Alex7Greek for translation...
